The Man Standing Next film has a background about the story that has never been revealed about the Korea Central Intelligence Agency (KCIA), and its political machinery in the 1970s.
In the 1970s, Korea was under the absolute control of President PARK (LEE Sung-min) who controlled KCIA, an organization that has excellence in every branch of government. The Director of KCIA, KIM Gyu-pyeong (LEE Byung-hun), is a substitute for the second commander.
In the midst of fear, the former KCIA director, PARK Yong-gak (KWAK Do-won), who knew all about unclear government and illegal operations, retreated to the United States, where he opened a tap for the ‘Koreagate’ investigation.
